The secret of our success

Nigel Derrett

Nigel learnt his trade with Trust House Forte, then Marchesi, a famous restaurant in Broadstairs. Following the retirement of Ken, he spends more time in the background running the business. Often appearing in our Facebook videos. 13 qualifications, City & Guilds.

Ken Derrett

Ken is a qualified chef, and spent the early part of his career working in exclusive restaurants in Mayfair, London. Since 1980, he has jointly run the Newington Fish Bar with his brother Nigel. Nowadays, Ken is enjoying his retirement.

Sarah

After starting in a supervisor role and progressing to manageress, taking care of the daily running of the shop alongside Natasha. Highly qualified, with 11 industry qualifications.

Natasha

Natasha holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management. She joined us in 2020 in a supervisory role and progressed into a management role alongside Sarah. She has 9 industry qualifications to add to her collection.

Jenny

Former supervisor with Rooks The Butchers, Jenny joined us with a lot of qualifications that were transferable to our trade and now holds a supervisory role with us. She is also able to help out with the frying when needed and has 9 industry qualifications.

Sonia

Sonia had spent a lot of her time working in local pubs and Corby Tea Rooms. She is well known for her friendly manner, and its amazing how many people she knows, just about ever customer that comes in. She has 7 qualifications.

Sarah 2

Sarah worked for us 15 years ago and left us to bring up her son and become a stay-at-home mum. She rejoined us in 2019 and is our main server during lunchtime, Monday-Friday. She has 6 qualifications.

Melanie

Melanie has been with us for a few years. She left for a short while but has since returned to her role with the team.

Lily

Part of our younger team, she has been with us throughout her final year at school and while attending college. 6 qualifications.

Sebastian

Sebastian one of Nigel’s grandsons and has recently turned 16, so has joined the younger team while he finishes school and prepares to move on to college.

Alisha

Another member of the younger team, having finished her last year at school and heading for college while she stays with us. 6 qualifications.

Paige

Eldest daughter to Natasha is also a member of the younger team and has been with us throughout her last year at school and college. 6 qualifications.

Kya

One of Sarah’s relatives is our deep cleaner and is responsible for keeping things up to standard, taking care of the cleaning tasks most people don’t see behind the scenes.

Bruce

Bruce started with us in late 2021 after retiring from his career in the printing world and now enjoys just working part time as our Potato Process Technician.
